Time Out!
You know the feeling. You're sitting in class and the teacher is writing the new assignment on the board and you feel like you're going to scream. You can't handle one more assignment!
We know the feeling, too. Sometimes it seems that the more you do, the more you have to do and the projects just keep piling up. Well, we're here to help with some easy-to-do ideas for managing your time so that screaming feeling will go away...
- See the big picture. Make a list of the commitments you have every week-your job hours, classes, games, meetings, household chores, etc.
- Week by week. You're going to make another list. This is a list of things that will change from week to week, so you'll make a new list every week. This week's list might look something like this:
- Book report Monday
- Volleyball game Tuesday
- Math quiz Wednesday
- Finish 30 pages in History by Friday
- The daily note card. Every day, make a To-Do List on a small note card. Just write down specifically what you need to do that day. Then carry the card with you and cross off each item when you complete it. Here's an example:
Thursday
- 7:00-7:30 Review Chemistry notes
- 3:30-5:00 Rehearsal for school play
- 6:00-6:30 Take dog for a walk
- 7:00-9:30 Homework. (25 Geometry problems & read 3 chapters of book for English)
Try this time-management method for a few weeks and see if it helps your schedule feel a bit more bearable. You may also want to use an organizing tool like our Big Mouth™ Backpack Filer or View-Tab® Subject Notebook so you can keep track of your assignments and keep all your homework in one place.
And remember...don't be too hard on yourself! If you find that you're getting off track, just stop, take a deep breath and jump back in. And every time you complete a to-do list, congratulate yourself. You deserve it!
Bonus Tip: Here are some Wilson Jones School products that will make your life a lot easier:
